Category: CHINA-GREEN TEA · premium ming-you (名优) tea · 高档 (high-grade) segment.

Classification and Origin

Category: CHINA-GREEN TEA · premium ming-you (名优) tea · 高档 (high-grade) segment.

Jiangbei (江北) — the northernmost of China's major green tea belts, lying on a climatic edge where tea cultivation balances at the border of its natural range.

a modern-era tea of contemporary introduction (引种) development, rather than from an ancient tea district (古茶区); industrial establishment dates approximately to the 1980s.

combines the toponym 午子 (wǔzǐ) with "仙毫" (xiānháo) — literally "immortal/heavenly down," which emphasizes the abundant fuzz of the buds.

Origin: Xixiang County (西乡), Hanzhong Prefecture (汉中), Shaanxi Province (陕西·汉中西乡).

Type: green tea (unfermented).

Botany and Raw Material

Fuding Large White provides the dense silvery fuzz that reads in the finished tea as a mark of tenderness and quality, consistent with a style emphasizing 显毫 (visible down).

within the wider Hanzhong brand, the assortment is also joined by other cultivars — Dragon Well Long Leaf (龙井长叶) and the Ziyang population (紫阳群体) — but for Wuzi Xianhao itself, the linkage of Fuding Large White with local groups remains the backbone.

highest tenderness — for premium batches, this means dominant bud and early harvest.

Cultivar: primarily 福鼎大白 (fúdǐng dàbái) — the Fuding Large White, a classic "white-down" cultivar valued for its large, densely fuzzy bud — as well as local population plantings (群体).

Terroir

the Hanzhong Basin south of the Qinling (秦岭) range, which serves as the climatic watershed between northern and southern China.

the southern slopes of the Qinling and the valleys of the Han River basin afford the tea a milder, more humid microclimate than one might expect from such a northern latitude.

a key terroir trait of the entire Hanzhong and Ankang-Ziyang belt is soil enrichment in selenium (富硒) and zinc (锌). This same geochemistry underpins the reputation of neighboring Ziyang Maojian as a "富硒" tea from the "Chinese selenium valley"; for Wuzi Xianhao, belonging to the selenium-zinc belt is part of its market identity and a distinction of Shaanxi green teas from southern classics.

Organoleptic Profile

emerald-green with abundant down (翠绿显毫).

chestnut (栗香) — the very "roasted-chestnut" note that makes it kin to northern green classics like Xinyang and Rizhao teas, yet with a Hanzhong softness and sweetness.

"high aroma, high freshness, high sweetness, low bitterness and astringency" (高香高鲜高甜低苦涩) with an appearance "slightly flattened, slender, tender-green, with down."

Taste: fresh sweetish taste with a mild returning aftertaste and minimal bitterness.
