Classification and Origin
Category: belongs to the category of Chinese green teas and, like any green tea, follows the general rules of this class regarding raw material, technology, and the absence of fermentation.
it would be incorrect to cite a specific "named" national GB/T number for this regional style — the direction is positioned primarily through its geographical origin (Pu'an, Guizhou) and raw material characteristics (old trees, early harvest), rather than through a widely known product standard of the famous "Ten Teas" level.
mid-to-high — it is not a mass-market "rice" product, but neither is it a handcrafted collector's item.
Origin: Pu'an County (普安县) in the Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (黔西南) in the west of Guizhou Province. A mountain region of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
Type: green (unfermented) tea.
Terroir
the mountain region of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with the characteristic combination for southern Guizhou of low latitudes, significant altitude, frequent fogs, and diffused light — classic conditions for the slow, aromatic growth of the tea leaf.
Pu'an's key feature is its reputation as "the land of ancient tea trees" (古茶树之乡). An ancient tea gene pool is preserved here, and it is precisely the reliance on old-aged trees and local populations that distinguishes this tea from the lowland plantation lines of neighboring Guizhou areas.
thanks to the mild winter and early warmth, Pu'an is considered one of the earliest tea districts in China — the first spring harvest here begins earlier than in most recognized green terroirs.
Organoleptic Profile
due to the old tree raw material, the body of the infusion feels somewhat denser and more stable than that of light plantation green teas from the same region.
Brewing
Teaware: — a glass cup or gaiwan, allowing observation of the strip-style leaf unfurling.
