Soil: Yellow soils, sandy loams and medium loams — deep, fertile, rich in organic matter, holding water and air well. The layer is more than 70 cm thick, pH 4.5–6.5.

Makhalidwe a tiyi

Picking: Spring. The local press wrote in 2017 that in Xinhe the harvest begins around the Qingming festival (early April) and ends around Lixia (early May); in some years the first harvest was reported as early as March.
